Slipping into Soufriere — St. Lucia Speed

Dreaming of dipping your toes into temperate Caribbean waters and feeling the sand gently exfoliate the bottoms of your feet? You’re ready for your next trip to St. Lucia.

Reach the Peak of the Pitons

Take a deep breath and get yourself prepared, as it’s 2,160 feet above sea level to the peak of Gros Piton; it’s a long but incredible journey to the top. Guides are required to make the journey, and Gros Piton offers some of the best on the island. This is a full-day experience as it’s approximately four to six hours in each direction. Don’t forget to charge the camera you’re going to be treated to incredible views from the top!
Plan ahead and bring a picnic that will fuel you for the whole day: think fresh fruits, nuts, and pre-made sandwiches to keep energy levels up. Of course proper footwear, sunscreen, and a cheerful attitude are all necessary, as the trek can be very trying!

Take a Dip Into the Warm Water Pools

Ready to relax yourself into the ultimate tranquil state? The thermal waters of Black Water Pool are said to give a multitude of health benefits such as reducing stress and giving the skin a youthful glow. Locals swear that a dip in the thermal pools will leave you looking ten years younger so why not give it a shot?

Don’t forget about the Pool of Love, as shown on “The Bachelor” in 2009. This clear pool with 89 degree water is the perfect spot for romance to blossom.

Find the Ultimate Hotel

While it’s a snap to spend $1,000 per night in Soufriere, it’s possible to find the balance of luxury and affordability with a little research. The Hummingbird Beach Resort is a great option for budget-minded travelers. There are only ten guest rooms, so you’re guaranteed an intimate and personalized visit.

The pool overlooks the water, there is an on-site restaurant in case you feel like staying put, and in-room Wi-Fi guarantees that you will have access to friends and family even while away.

Perfecting Your Rum Punch Recipe

One of the best souvenirs you can bring home from this trip is the perfect rum punch recipe to share with family and friends. Try your hand at mixing a batch at your hotel so you don’t need to worry about drinking and driving. If you prefer to indulge in the island’s own, bring your own container to a restaurant so you can take it back to your hotel. The perfect gift for those at home is a bottle of rum with this short and sweet recipe!

Make note of the local’s rhyme for the best blend possible:

One part sour (lime, lemon, or sour orange juice, and a dash of bitters)
two parts sweet (make your own simple syrup for best results)
three parts strong (your job is to find the best rum on the island!)
four parts weak (fresh juice: think orange, mango, pineapple)

This is the gift that keeps on giving, and a sweet way to savor your vacation even after you’ve unpacked at home when the trip is over.
