An Eco-Friendly Visit to Mermaid Waters

While traveling to one of the most beautiful places on planet earth, it’s natural to want to do your best to care for it. Here are some ways to have a vacation to Mermaid Waters that you can feel great about.

Surf’s Up If You’re Down

Broadbeach surf school offers surf tours, a perfect way to see the sights. They love to teach their customers about the ocean, environment, and the Gold Coast while catching some great waves. Broadbeach is about two miles from Mermaid Waters and along with Surfer’s Paradise they are the hip spots to hit the waves and grab a tan.

Up Close and Personal With Mother Nature

June through November is prime whale watching season, and you might be lucky enough to get a first row seat to these gentle giants putting on a show. The best views are from the water; choose a company who respects the whales by watching from a safe distance. Make sure to ask about their emissions, motors, and of course about your own safety on board as well.

Gold Coast Island Adventures has the Mahi Mahi vessel which touts a new, eco-friendlier motor and staff who are trained on how to best navigate near whales.  If you don’t have the funds for this – no worries, grab a pair of binoculars and watch the show from the comfort of the sandy beach.

Eat Local and Love It

Govinda’s is touted as the best eco-friendly vegetarian restaurant on the entire Gold Coast. Their motto is “you are what you eat” and they intend for you to be the best version of yourself possible with their fresh ingredients sourced from right next door. Word on the street is the mango cheesecake is an unforgettable event.

Mandala Organic Arts Cafe fuses their love for art and food into plates which are truly spectacular. Even though all the food is vegan, you would never guess it from their selection of gourmet cheeses! Locals love coming by on Sundays when nachos are on the menu, while the Pear and Raddichio Pizza is an everyday favorite.

Do You Like It Raw?

Greenhouse Factory is a great place to enter the world of raw foods: trifle, vanilla cashew cream, and raw granola are just some starters. The Spinach Gnocchi with a creamy mushroom sauce is hefty enough to leave you feeling full, but light enough to leave you wanting more. Take advantage of their organic cocktails and prime location overlooking the beach and plan sunset hour here.

Shop Like You Were Born Here

Every Sunday morning, local farmers wake up at the crack of dawn for the best Farmer’s Market on the Gold Coast. Bring re-useable bags to stock up on enough fruit and veg to last you through a week of self catering and watch your dining costs plummet!

Sleep Soundly at an Eco-Friendly Hotel

Accommodation can have a large impact on the environment, so choosing an eco-friendly hotel is hugely important for a responsible visit. The Quality Hotel Mermaid Waters is known for being the most conscious and sustainable hotel in Mermaid Waters .

With all these activities that are great for you and the planet, your next trip to the Gold Coast is a definite success.
