2009 If you’re reading this post, odds are you found it on Twitter. Twitter- the social network that is bridging gaps across the world faster than telephones- has been a truly invaluable tool in planning my up and coming Round the World trip.
I am able to hop online, see fellow RTW’ers and travelers alike, read their stories, encourage & communicate with them, and deepen my own relationship to my trip.
I cannot say I would have the courage to attempt this trip without having read so many successful, amazing, and heart warming stories online. Not only was a trip like this possible, but with the world of twitter, if I find myself stuck in Nepal and need a good hostel, odds are pretty good that I can ask my travel community and get some help! It’s an emergency safety net, as well as a group of people who truly do become friends.
Though I have been using twitter under the name @donatifamily for over a year, I am new to @brandyleebell and new to the travel community of twitter. Everyone has been so welcoming, helpful, and inspirational. A huge thank you to many twitter friends who have made the planning, preparation, and launching of this trip a true delight!
See below for my list of randomly ordered, thoroughly awesome tweeps!

@20stravel ~ great resource for laughs, quotes, help, photos- just great!
@nomaddicchick ~ last, certainly not least. one of the sweetest, most encouraging twitter travelers out there!
If you’re not following these lovely folks on twitter, you’re missing out! Also, everyone has their own website, I encourage you to check them all out- invaluable tools in building a trip or continuing your momentum and love of travel. If I forgot you, I’m an ass and my coffee hasn’t fully kicked in yet. If I haven’t met you, please, introduce yourself- I love to meet new friends. If you’re not on twitter, you can always add me on Facebook, where I am slightly less active and informative, but equally hilarious.
Friends, you have ALL been a tremendous support and blessing to my trip. What can I do for you?

That’s a great list of tweeps! You found all the right folks.
I’ve been working with the #RTW and #RTWsoon crowd to design a shirt for RTW backpackers and I wanted to share it with you.
Here’s the men’s shirts, just launched, with women’s coming shortly.

Garret, I love it! In fact, I can’t wait for the ladies edition- when is it due?
would it be totally cheesy to have your twitter name below the hostel dog logo? everyone will be marketing themselves via twitter in no time… you might as well be ahead of the curve!
Count me in when the ladies is out. RTW or bust 😉

Hmmm….you have a great point about the Twitter name. I love the idea! I’ll have to test it out.
And here’s the women’s RTW shirt!

Also, I’m not sure if you saw the Women’s Tweet Travel shirt:

Very nice – I’ve had a wonderful week discovering all my fellow #rtwsoon peeps. It was comforting to discover so many out there and have the opportunity to chat with people on a similar track!
Can’t wait until I give notice at work and can share my plans more openly!

Awwwh Brandy, thanks for the mention. Glad I fooled you into believing I’m sweet. Hope my enthusiasm for travel is truly infectious instead of fracken annoying. Just can’t help it – travel can change a person, I’m living proof! 😀
PS: Really great write-up too. It’s cool how Twitter has influenced people!

Oh gosh so much love! I do like how the #RTWsoon community evolved naturally out of us all just chatting on Twitter. I think it’s just one example of the great opportunities and connections that come from that site.

Random yeah that pretty much sums me up to a T 🙂
Twitter has been a great resource for planning my upcoming trip. Without it I would surly be struggling at this stage.
I know when I start traveling I’m going to miss a lot of the chats we have on twitter but perhaps that’s a good thing for the rest of you.

Thanks for the great write-up, Brandy!
Also, I probably say the words, “I love Twitter!” a good 4 or 5 times every day. Honestly. Every day.
My in-person, real-life friends hate me for it. They just don’t know what they’re missing!

I’m leaving in 7 weeks and this group has been so supportive and helpful with all my last minute preparations. It will be hard to go from #rtwsoon to #rtwnow
