Trapped in my Hostel- Part TWO.

In the words of Borat “Great Success!”. After yawning excessively on my way to my room while declaring loudly in Greek just how tired I was, and wishing everyone a very pleasant sleep. Dressed in my hideous pajamas and with no makeup on, I was certain this was believable. Then I went to my room, locked the door and proceeded to get gussied up by the light of my travel alarm clock.

Yes, this meant pushing the “light” button every 30 seconds, and putting on enough makeup to outlast a rodeo clown, but I didn’t care- I was sneaking out! Not only was I sneaking out… but I am a TWENTY FOUR year old sneaking out!  Surely, this is life.

My Sweet Sweet Escape

Climbing on the balcony railing to grab the ladder that I had ever-so-cleverly hid among the ivy I moved it towards the balcony and got it to be mostly stable. In Greece, mostly stable is the highest of security measures. So, at exactly 11:11, I climbed down the ladder without incident. Okay, minor incident. My shirt might have gotten caught on the top rung and I went down about 3 rungs before I realized I was losing my shirt- but after that- I was in the clear!

Sneaking down the side alley and hiding under the balconies of the owners above me (just in case they heard me) I crept to the main street of the town where the overly friendly jeweler was waiting for me. Damn! I made the excuse that I was off to church (since it’s Easter week, the church is open all night long) and would meet him later. Win again!

Thanks to the plentiful side streets, alleys, and awnings of buildings, I was not only able to stay out of the hostel without being caught, but able to dodge the jeweler for the entire night! Success is mine- tonight I am planning yet another escape with much grander rewards. Check back tomorrow to see just what I have in store for myself…

needless to say, the makeup effect is much more dramatic when done by crappy lighting…
