Sustainable Travel in Portland, Oregon

In what has become a hipster haven, Portland has taken the entire world by storm through the hit Independent Film Channel’s TV show “Portlandia,” with the city portrayed as an eating, drinking, bobo paradise. Find your slice of Portland by navigating your way through the culinary scene, starting with sustainable and responsible tour operators.

Brush Up on Your Beer Knowledge

Portland has so much more to offer than free-range poultry and admittedly snazzy beards. It is also home to so many craft breweries it is rapidly becoming known as the new craft brewery capital of the world. Take advantage of being on the brewery scene by upping your knowledge of the brew we call beer while selecting the perfect souvenirs for friends and yourself. Eco Tours of Oregon offers a hand-crafted tour which begins in the afternoon and takes you to several breweries where you learn the art of beer. Food is also provided, so you’re able to stand up straight by the end of the night! Visit famous breweries like Widmer Gasthaus, Lucky Labrador, and Full Sail Brewery. This is a great way to give back to the local community while enjoying yourself — responsible travel at its finest.

Put On Your Overalls and Head to the Farm

Kruger’s Farm is the perfect solution to your Portland dinner question. Enjoy a farm-to-table dining experience under the stars (weather accommodating), among beautiful oak trees. Appetizers range from garlic roasted artichoke crostinis to pickled vegetables — it all depends on what the day’s harvest brings in! While the main course is typically a meat entrée, the farm is happy to cater to vegetarian and vegan diets as well, and with so much fresh produce, there’s no better place for a plant-based diet.

In case you’re visiting in the summer, be sure to check out the concert series to enjoy live music in a wonderful atmosphere!

Visit a Pumpkin Patch, Winery, and Cider House all Rolled Into One

The Bella Organics property is a one-stop shop for all things organic and benevolent. They offer a daily wine tasting, which also includes micro brews and homemade hard apple cider. In the summer months, be sure to bring your appetite, as their farm fresh food pavilion does not disappoint: gyros, falafel, tabouleh, burgers, sweet potato fries, caramel apples, and freshly baked cookies are all on the menu. For late nights, they also sell s’more kits for a little DIY fireside fun for the entire family!

In the fall, bring a flashlight to adventure your way through the humongous 7-acre corn maze with more than 3 miles of winding roads on which to lose your way. Good news for pet lovers — your dog is welcome to join you as long as it is on a leash.

When you’re planning your upcoming adventure to Portland, don’t forget to look for a Portland hotel which takes its commitment to the environment seriously, as well. RiverPlace Hotel, a Klimpton property, represents endless dedication to minimizing the establishment’s the impact on the environment while maximizing guests’ comfort and happiness.
