Why Travel? Get Your Inspiration Here

[box] “Learn to value yourself, which means: to fight for your happiness” – Ayn Rand [/box]

Imagine. You’ve hugged mom goodbye, gave her all the emergency contact information, and triple checked your backpack for every possible thing you could need. You walk through the sliding doors into the airport and see your flight on the departure board. It’s real.

A tingling sensation starts in your feet, suddenly your palms are sweaty and the moving sidewalk feels more like a cloud – it’s real and it’s happening to you. You board the plane, in a sheer haze of disbelief. When the force of lift off throws you against your seat, the rush and excitement flood your body (okay, it could also be that pre-flight xanax).

After drooling on yourself (and probably your seat mate, let’s be honest) the plane touches down and you’re in a whole new world. Over stimulated at first. Every sight and sound is something new to behold and your senses are struggling to take it all in. Don’t worry, within hours (or days) you will be accustomed and strutting the streets of this new city like a pro.

You might not realize it, but this change from being an overwhelmed and unaccustomed wears off.
You’re already growing, changing, and learning. Once you’ve learned to bow in Asia, place your hand over your heart in the Middle East, to give a high five in Australia – you’re becoming more adapted and suited to the world you live in.

Breaking boundaries and crossing borders does not exist only on passport pages. The changes that occur within you are something irreplaceable. A few weeks or months and your persona will have shifted so much that trying to fit yourself back into your old life might be a bit like putting the Michelin Man in a Jack in the Box — it’s just not going to happen.

Not only are you growing wiser about the world, but you’re able to control your scenery. Are you a beach bum? Hit the coast! Crave serenity and solitude? Want to get messy with colors? Head to India for the Holi Festival. Find a trail to hike, a mountain to chill on — the world is your oyster! Unless you’re a vegetarian, then it’s a delicious, organic, free-range apple.

why travel is great

happy birthday, beautiful friend!

Still not inspired? There’s something wrong with you — but I’ve got just what the doctor ordered. A heaping serving of travel inspiration from amazing people just like you dishing pearls of wisdom on why travel is one of the most life changing experiences you can buy. Here’s a favorite quote of mine from a dear friend who puts this feeling into words better than I ever could:

[box] “Traveling has taught me that any decision I make is fine, and I’ll always benefit and become wiser whichever way I choose to go.

It’s taught me to chill, trust the flow and become more intuitive.

Travel has also taught me nobody is fundamentally right and nobody is fundamentally wrong either; so it’s okay to be a freak, to be a genius, to be a monster, to be me.

Perhaps most importantly, travel has taught me that self-reliance is the greatest gift of Freedom, and that relying on oneself also means asking for help, not from a place of need, but from a place of curiosity.

Surfing somebody else’s couch, borrowing somebody else’s item, eating a meal prepared by somebody else or asking for directions will always show you there are more ways than one to get from A to B.

The whole difference between distraction and a miraculous gift is all but a perspective.
Travel is the supreme exercise in shifting perspectives.” – Awen Salotto
